Together with his brother Joel, they are recognized as a talented brother act of filmmakers known for their stylish irreverent films that combine elements of comedy and drama and often feature eccentric characters and convoluted plots. Their movies-within-movies usually display amusing camera movements, richly textured landscapes, and talented performers spouting witty dialogue. From the duo though Ethan is the archetypal quiet one that is also influenced by his body of work as a fiction and poetry writer.
