Italian Director and Writer (1920-1993).

Recognized for pioneering a personal style of filmmaking superimposing fantasy and dreamlike baroque imagery upon ordinary situations with incisive social critique , he became a major figure of Italian neorealism that has influenced a generation of major filmmakers worldwide.
He won an honorary Academy Award for his cinematic accomplishments; was nominated to 4 academy awards as a director while 4 of his movies won the Best Foreign Film Award and 7 of his screenplays have been nominated.
Four of his films made it to our All-Time Best Films list.
