Her films try to subvert the genres that have typically been very macho by focusing on stories from the perspective of the female members of the family and community.
A film she co-directed with her husband at the time, Ciro Guerra, was the Colombian entry and made the short list for the Foreign Language film Academy Award.
That one film made it to our All-Time Best Films list .
