Drama Film

Director Elia Kazan follows the story of a faded Southern Belle School teacher who after losing her family plantation and her job has to move in with her sister and her brutish husband into a charming but poor area of New Orleans adding to their already conflicting household relationship and leading to the unearthing of her own shocking secrets. Director Kazan delivers an intense dramatic adaptation of a popular Tennessee Williams’ stage play with engaged performances by Marlon Brando and Vivian Leigh although the storyline may not feel as explosive for a contemporary audience.
It won 4 Academy Awards while nominated for another 8 including Best Picture.
