Director Leon Gast follows the buildup to the 1974 heavyweight championship match fight in Zaire (now Congo) between champion George Foreman and challenger Muhammad Ali. The film explores the relationship between African-Americans and the African continent during the Black Power era in terms of both popular culture and international politics.
Gast took 22 years to complete this entertaining documentary enlivened by the intersection of sports, politics and culture with an inspiring emotional analysis of the boxing.
