Western Drama Film

George Stevens follows a skilled gunfighter who after trying to settle as a farmhand for a homestead family gets involved in a local conflict between townsfolk and unscrupulous cattle ranchers. Stevens creates a relatively complex Western introducing psychological elements into the usual gunplay with meticulous attention to detail and rich color cinematography however it can be a little slow and the performances uneven.
It won 1 Academy Award and it was nominated for another 5.
