Chaplin shows his character The Tramp struggling to live in a modern industrial society and who after meeting a homeless girl start helping each other to try to find a better life.
Chaplin mixes social commentary on the industrial system with slapstick humor still on a mostly silent format with sound effects even though it was released years into the sound era.
