[Original Title: El abrazo de la serpiente]
Director Ciro Guerra follows the last Amazonian shaman in two journeys 30 years apart where he helps separately two western scientists looking for a rare sacred healing plant while experiencing the disappearance of his own culture. Ciro Guerra creates an enthralling, politically tinged, psychedelic, historical adventure with rich black and white visuals touching on complex subjects of culture genocide in a way that unfortunately may not fully capture a modern short-span audience’s attention.
It earnt the first nomination for a Colombian film to the Academy Awards.
