American animator, arranger, composing and film director (1906-1988)
He dutifully worked up his career at the Walt Disney animation studio contributing to some of the biggest films in the animation industry. Jackson was an exceptionally thorough and meticulous director, a master of preparation who commonly used themes of relationships, forbidden love, and strong ties to nature and because of his skill in music synchronization, his films contained musical and dance sequences.
Three of his Silly Symphony shorts won Academy Awards during the 1930’s
Six of his films made it to our All-Time Best Films list.
He was also instrumental in developing the system with which Disney added music and sound to Steamboat Willie (also in our list).
