John Ford

Also known as John Martin Feeney , Ford was renowned for his westerns and adaptations of 20th century literature, being regarded as one of the most important and influential filmmakers of his generation. His films express a deep aesthetic sensibility for the American past and the spirit of the frontier juxtaposing people against their natural surroundings sometimes championing the value and force of the group.
He won 4 Academy Awards for Best Director and was nominated for 1 more, while winning or being nominated 3 more times for producing or for his documentary work.
