Ang Lee tells the story of a gay Taiwanese immigrant who, after deciding to marry his struggling Chinese female tenant to placate his parents wishes, has to deal with the debacle that ensues when they turn the simple affair into a lavish Chinese wedding banquet while he is trying to hide his real relationship with a white man. Ang Lee balances comedy and drama exploring themes dealing with family ties, tradition and acceptance within the framework of a conservative culture. It was nominated for 1 Academy Award.
